Copper has many benefits such as being naturally corrosion resistant, durable for high pressures, and lightweight which saves on the labor of installation. Because of this and despite the recent advancements of PEX, PVC, and CPVC piping, copper remains around because instead of investing solely in one system, we believe in blending the two to fit their strengths.

Corrosion Resistant – The main reason you should use copper repiping is that it is corrosion resistant. When compared to other metals such as galvanized steel, it is much better at handling the constant rush of water and the contents of the water.

However, PEX piping tends to be much better at handling high acidity water than copper piping. While that may be true, it is worth noting that this sentiment only relates to well-drawn water sources. For most homes, you receive your water from the city which is usually filtered heavily before arriving at your home.

High-Pressure Durability – Copper piping can withstand 1,000 psi of pressure. PEX can withstand anywhere from 80-150 PSI from extremely hot water (temperatures ranging from 200-120 degrees respectively.) This is a huge advantage for copper piping, especially when people are considering installing a hot water machine or when dealing with the plumbing with the central water heater.

Lightweight and Economic Metal – When compared to other metals on the market for plumbing, it is the lightest and most economical metal on the market. Copper is much cheaper, lighter, and durable than steel when it comes to dealing with water and distributing it throughout a home.
